Woodford Reserve Cherry Wood Smoked Barley is the 12th release (2017) in the Master’s Collection and one of the more experimental bourbons the distillery has ever produced. Instead of the standard bourbon grain recipe, this whiskey uses malted barley that has been smoked with cherry wood, giving it a subtle smoky, almost campfire-like character layered over classic bourbon sweetness. The result is a unique hybrid profile—somewhere between bourbon and malt whiskey—with notes of cherry, caramel, chocolate, toasted grain, and light smoke. It’s not heavily peated like Scotch, but the smoked barley adds a distinct twist that makes it stand out in the category.
