<p>Eye: Light maple syrup. Zero rims, splotchy droplets all over the glass. Nose: Lots of corn, even on a relatively tight nose. Plenty of heat. Vanilla, too - definitely smells like a bourbon, if a tightly-wound one. Palate: Mouth is hot as f*** at first, proof, peppercorn, tongue-numbing heat. Flavor behind it is pleasant, red fruits and almond brittle with a slight bitterness of almond skins. Toffee and char appear as the heat mellows. Mouthfeel is coating, medium-bodied, makes the whole mouth tingle in flames. Burnt maple sugar opens up, too. Finish: Chocolate-y and almond-y, quite delicious, as the heat dies down into embers over which the chocolate almond bar melts. Overall: If you can survive the initial burst of flame, you’ll be rewarded. Yes, it’s hot and brash, but as a “junior” George T. Stagg I’d expect nothing less. </p>
