Despite the "dessert" category code on the register, this is actually a bold red blend, not a sweet wine. California winemaker Dave Phinney of Orin Swift Cellars builds it mostly from Zinfandel, with Petite Sirah and a touch of Syrah, and named it after a self-imposed break from using the word "Zinfandel" following the sale of his Prisoner brand. Expect ripe dark fruit, baking spice, and a touch of oak from partial new-oak aging, finishing full and generous. It pairs well with grilled meats or a hearty pasta, and its striking label makes it a fun bottle to bring to a dinner party.
